Creating Your Own Cheap Home Security System

Creating Your Own Cheap Home Security System

While it's mostly true that when it comes to securing your home, you get what you pay for, it's also true that there is a kind of cheap home security system that you can put in place in your home that is very effective. Creating it just takes a little know how and a do it yourself type attitude.

Follow these steps and you will have a very sound, cheap home security system.

1) Secure your garage door with an extra locking system. After market garage door locks are very inexpensive and very effective in making it almost impossible for an intruder to gain entry through your garage door. Since this is the first entry way many intruders look for, this is an important step.

2) Alarm signs. They usually cost less than five dollars and can often be free if you contact a given security company that provides them. Even if you don't subscribe to their service, they are often happy to get signs placed for advertising reasons.

You'll experience the benefit of many potential intruders passing your house by at first glance.

3) Smoke detectors and carbon monoxide detectors in one. Amazingly, detectors that detect smoke and carbon monoxide do not cost much more than the individual detectors. They are much cheaper individually than buying two separate detectors would be.

A single security camera is sometimes enough. Placing a wireless camera over the front entry door and connecting it to the home computer is a great way to see who is at the front door without opening it.

5) Fake cameras. You can get them for between $10 and $20 each and most look so much like the real thing that they scare away trouble.

Sliding glass door barriers. Most stock sliding glass door locks are not as secure as they should be. Putting a broom handle or solid stick in the track is a very inexpensive way to make them much more secure. The same can be done to sliding windows.
